About me

Hi, thanks for checking out my blog.

My name is Laura. I live in Canberra, Australia and love the outdoors. I have three boys, and I try to instill a love of nature and zest for life in them by taking them bushwalking, camping and travelling.

Mountains

In Canberra, we’re blessed to have beautiful mountain ranges on our doorstep with the Brindabellas and Namadgi National Park. We also have lots of opportunities for peak bagging on a smaller scale within Canberra, which is perfect for young children with excess energy.

I’m always drawn to mountains. The grandeur and scale of being but an ant-like creature amongst mother nature’s elegant giants. When I meditate, my go-to visualisation is basking in the sun above glaciated valleys on McKinnon Pass on the Milford Track, New Zealand.

Mud

I mentioned I have three boys, right? Mud comes with the territory. Getting outdoors is going to be grubby – they don’t avoid paddles, they actively seek them out! Splashing in puddles and squelching through mud is part of who we are.

And in truth, boys or not, I’m happy as a pig in the proverbial when I’ve got mud halfway up my gaiters, sweat running down my brow and zero care for what I look like. The places I like walking and have on my bucket list include quite a few with descriptions of extensive mud. Port Davey and South Coast Track in Tassie, anyone? How about the Raikura Track on Stewart Island in NZ? Too muddy? No way, that’s part of the fun!

Memories

Life has a tendency to fly by, and our kids grow up so fast. My goal is to make the most of our time together and create memories to bring us joy. Many of our toys and material stuff will be broken, grown out of or forgotten, but remembering how it felt to stand on the highest point of Australia, or making snow angels together on the Overland Track will be with us always.

I hope you find some inspiration on this blog for creating your own memories. Drop me a line in the comments. I’d love to hear about your adventures too.

Cheers,

Laura.
